The Best Books I Read in 2010

A little late for a wrap up post, but here goes! Read the reviews if you want to see more about the books, my summaries here re admittedly cursory.

1. SuperFreakanomics by Steven Levitt & Stephen Dubner - economics, politics, humor and insight. Excellent book!
2. Nomad by Ayaan Hirsi Ali - Really interesting stories from one of the most remarkable women alive.
3. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - Exciting dystopian, young adult story!
4. Wings of Wrath by C.S. Friedman - Superfabulous sci-fi.
5. Devil's Teeth by Susan Casey - SHARKS.

  2. 1. The Windup Girl, by Paolo Baciagalupi. Topically relevant science fiction told in an unusual writing style.

    2. Half the Sky, by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. Currently relevant discussion of female oppression worldwide and what can be done about it.

    3. Oryx and Crake, by Margaret Atwood. More science fiction relevant to today's cultural trajectory.

    4. After the Ice, by Alun Anderson. Why the Arctic is important, and why it's the most threatened place on Earth. No review on the blog, because I read it in early 2010.

    5. Hack the Planet, by Eli Kintisch. How to use engineering and science to fix the problems we caused!

I also feel like Anathem, by Neal Stephenson, deserves an honorable mention, for just being a really cool original concept in science fiction!!
